Service Virtualization: The Next Frontier for Testing

Cover

A recent study showed that due to test access constraints, on average, testers had time to execute only 50% of the expected test plan for development projects.

These constraints may be all too familiar:

  • Agile teams working simultaneously on different projects need access to each other's components
  • Systems like mainframes or large enterprise resource planning (ERPs) that are too complex for test labs
  • Inaccessible 3rd party/partner systems and services
  • Evolving development environments
  • Missing/unstable components

As you probably know, attempting to resolve these constraints by building out a staged environment or virtual test lab is extraordinarily expensive— and technically impossible in many cases. But 50% is still a scary, unacceptable number for anyone concerned with software quality.

Service virtualization is the answer. It resolves test access constraints in situations where a dependent application is difficult to access and/or configure for dev/test purposes.

Read this white paper to learn how you can leverage service virtualization to conduct testing earlier, faster, more thoroughly, and more accurately— significantly reducing the risk of application failure.
