ABSTRACT:
Users of Microsoft Dynamics™ CRM laptop client for Microsoft Office Outlook® sometimes find that there can be a considerable amount of time spent between the point data is being gathered in the field by a salesperson and synchronized to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server. During this time, the data captured is stored in the Microsoft SQL Server™ Express Edition databases that were created during the installation of Microsoft Dynamics CRM clients for Outlook Compatibility Update (V3c). This data could be highly sensitive to the business and cause major problems if it fell into malicious hands. Data theft via remote access or theft of portable computers is not uncommon. How does one address this issue?

This white paper explains how to use Encrypting File System (EFS), a feature that is provided by default in the Windows® operating system, to protect data in Microsoft Dynamics CRM clients for Outlook Compatibility Update running on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (SP2).
