ABSTRACT:
Within the confines of the enterprise, there are significant opportunities to save money by optimizing business processes and focusing decisions. That is the promise of data warehousing and business intelligence (DW/BI); a promise that has been moderately fulfilled over the past two decades.

Numerous companies have been able to design and implement a DW/BI strategy, while others have had a harder time achieving value for various reasons: the plan was not well thought out; data could not be easily located, cleaned and imported into the warehouse for analysis; or the company simply did not have the money needed to fully implement across its multiple products/markets/channels or other fluid factors of their franchises and or business models. All of which left firms bemoaning the lack of performance and the lack of results, and concluding that they might not be able to take advantage of the promises of DW/BI.

Technology developments have changed the market conditions significantly. In the past several years and a new breed of vendor has entered the fray; a vendor able to leverage powerful performance to provide speed and agility to companies needing rapid access to information. These vendors are paying more careful attention than ever before to their customer' bottom line, with a particular focus on the flexibility, incredible performance and TCO of the new system options and configurations available to enterprises ranging from small to large.

This paper will review the importance of increased analytical performance, data management improvements and radically reduced cycle times ensconced in and available from DW/BI technologies and designs, and will pay particular attention to one vendor that embodies the best of today''s thinking: Kognitio.
